Beyond SEO
Although I provide services to make your website rank high in Google, I really believe that should be part of a strategy, not a tactic.
Let explain the difference:
a. Tactic – One specific action or part of a whole project
b. Strategy – a group of elements that fit together to achieve a similar goal
The reason I say this, is there is no benefit to ranking high in Google, getting people to your website, and then when they arrive, there is not a clear action they should take.
Also for you need to know the numbers, the process, what’s going on at the site to improve and test progress.
I met with an affiliate marketer last week (sells products online for commission, without owning them)
His goal was increase conversion to action of joining his email newsletter, which currently has 20 K subscribers. He tested the way people joined his list.
He was using an “opt over” – A Box which appears on his home page, and grays out the back ground – example:
http://www.tyroneshum.com/ (opens new window)
This type of model can increase sign up to newsletter by up to 30% provided it is done right, like the one above, it gives something of value.
Another element you must have is analytics – to measure what is going on. The most comprehensive is Google analytics, which is free, but can be over comprehensive and gives lot of really deep data.
A simple analytics program is statcounter (statcounter.com)
The email program I use iContact which you can try 100% free for 60 days.
The advantages over this program over others is a couple of points:
1. Cost – very cost effective, compared to other New Zealand based models (kiwis look -These global ,proven systems have been tested WAY before we got online : )
2. Import – iContact is the only system which allows to import an email list without they having to reconfirm each email
Every Opportunity should be used (online and offline) to bring visitors to you which should include every time you send an email – Just like this:

You don’t have to make the web stand along, but you do need a strategy to make progress. Lose tactics without a plan have little effect.
Imagine an international plane trip, without a plan? nuff said….

Thanks Paul very informative and to the point.
