Google bouncing

Google has a large focus in trust, like any business, the longer you have been around the more trusted you are likely to become. The same can be said for domain names.

In working with a clients site, the longer the domain names have been active, the better. Simply put it Google just likes them more. At the same time this doesn’t stop “Google bouncing”.
Let me explain what I mean.

Let say you start a new website, and you do a lot of promotion, articles, directories, building incoming links etc…everything you need to do. The site ranks as you want. Yay- success!
But after that the site disappears to not in the top 10 pages. Did you do something wrong? Is Google punishing you?

All of these fears go through your mind, in most cases, it’s a matter of Google not yet having enough trust in your site and adjusting its results.  The reason you start to rank is because you are new content and Google likes fresh  up to date information.

The best to combat this, is to simply continue down the same path, keep the promotion going as it’s a matter of the more “votes” – (in the form of incoming links) that keep appearing, building the trust.

Also it takes time to build that trust (like making a new friend) and can take up to a year, for that trust to grow for a new site. (Compare it to having a baby – A process that doesn’t instantly- would it be crazy to expect the baby to be born at month 3? – get my point?)

At the same time, even if your domain has been around a while, your site can still bounce, once you start, active promotion.  This is just Google adjusting to what’s going on, and this is normal in the process.

Google in the past, did large updates, where sites would completely disappear overnight (around 2002) and not come back for months. Now its, constant, small movements, on a regular (daily) basis.

Now the good news is the older your site becomes, the less likely this is to happen, however for someone like me, who is watching this (and watching clients sites, in which I guarantee top ten ranking) it can be challenging.

Patience is required is required, together with the understanding of what is going on. When you understand the process and the time frames involved you are more likely to have success.
So what’s the lesson from this?

If you have domains (or thinking of buying keyword based domains) you are not using, find a way to get them up and active at least.

Free Domain parking a domain is not the best option  as Google can see that and takes little notice.

It can cost as little as $200 to get an SEO formatted site up (with free hosting). You can see an example here:

This is a system which will help your domains build age, and puts articles, videos, twitter content etc on the site. As a holding strategy, it is a good option as it can be used as way of building incoming links to your main site.
