Caffeine Attack

Every time Google has an update, many people panic, and this one is no different. Actually every day there are small changes going on to improve Googles listings. Here is a good video on how Google works on the whole:

This latest update is called “Caffine” which has been going for the last few months (they just finished it) – Googles official site doesn’t tell you much but full details are here: Caffeine Update (Link opens new window)

The short answer for the update is changing content on your site is good. Nothing new here, as having your site updated a lot (think facebook pages – always changing) is always been a factor, as it brings Google web spider  in more often.

So this brings up the question- how often should I update my site?

As much as you can, but a good number is monthly

As far as what still works and is more important  – incoming links. I needed to prove this, for my own piece of mind……So…..last week I create one new incoming link to my site (it was on a page with a PR (Page Rank) of 5 with focused Text in the link (anchor text)

I made no other changes to my site in any way.

Around about 7 days later, I checked on my ranking for the key term and it had jumped up 2 places and was above of  PR 5 site (mine is only a PR3)

I also had another client jump from not in the top 100 sites to number 15, all with the last 10 days just by creating a lot of incoming links, from a range of blog

Conclusion- Not much has really changed lately, what has worked in the last year, still works. I now have access to a large amount of blogs all hosted separately, if you are interesting in getting these links to your site, they can be created very affordably. Drop me note here.

    Thanks for that, very interesting

So what you are saying is this …

1, try to create unique, interesting content that a potential reader might find interesting enough to be “engaged” by the content – ie they might spend time on the site, bookmark the page, refer it to their friends etc.

2, Then try to get as many, already established, credible sources to “vouch” for your business by way of a “reference” to you and what you are doing on their sites.

Wow this SEO stuff is complex huh.

Nope! I couldnt care less about bookmarking, refer to a friend etc- I can’t control those things, thats up to other people. if they do it great, but otherwise i reach out using email, and building a relationship- simply letting people to get to know me, and hopefully helping. My goal is that i hope people witll see as a trustworthy source (or filter) of information, that they will become customers.

  3. Hi, I have been receiving your info for almost a year now and find it very good. Even though I have been at this for almost 2 years, i still find the SEO of my sites confusing.
I noticed you said that you should update your site at least once a month? My question is, is there such a thing as adding too much content too often?
I am a fairly prolific writer, I would like to add something new, an original article, a blog post on a daily basis, is this wrong or too much?

    Thanks for your time.

      Bryan,
There is no such thing as too much activity- the more the better, its like air, you can’t have too much ;)

It is easy to be lost in SEO, as I am guessing you have follow/read a lot of forums, many “experts” over complicate what you need to do. That way they look good and with a lot of knowledge. Its better to cut it down to a few small things:

      1. Identify your keywords
      2. Use them in your site
      3. Create incoming links to your site/pages with the keywords
      4. Do the work!
      5. Repeat all above!

      Hope that helps
